I recently had the pleasure of working with a current Help Desk site maintenance client to refurbish his website. While I didn’t build the original site, I was keeping the site maintained and backed up, and was able to see that it was becoming more challenging to keep it up to date. This is very common for websites as they age, especially if some of the site’s themes and plugins aren’t currently supported or licensed. Eventually, the website will begin to show its age – not just visually, but technically. In some cases, a website that is just too old will be open to compromise, harder to make content updates, or just not look as good as it used to.
Happily, my client, Galen Herbst DeCortina of BUFF Your Finances, agreed that it was time for a visual and technical refresh. Galen is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) that specializes in working with young Twitch streamers, content creators, and early-career professionals. With a younger target audience, having a more modern and streamlined appearance is one of the goals, along with improvements in overall performance.
The project began with a web call, where Galen and I reviewed available starter templates that would provide a jumping-off point for customization and content placement. This part of the project can be overwhelming for clients, as there’s a lot of options, but Galen was clear about his goals and quickly selected a few possibilities to start with. Using his current website content, I set up two possible designs for Galen to review. We later followed up with a call to choose the design he liked best, and I set to work with refining the branding, and placing the remaining text and image content.
Here’s the before and after…as you can see, the improvement was dramatic!
